As part of the European Realities in Transition project, the XR Camp in Zagreb (October 24 – 29, 2023) brings together the core of a new extended reality community. Seven partners from all over Europe – Ars Electronica (Linz, AT), Dark Euphoria (Marseille, FR), iMAL – Art Center for digital cultures & technology (Brussels, BE), KONTEJNER (Zagreb, HR), LEV Festival (Gijón, ES ), CHRONIQUES, leader (Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, FR), and V2_, Lab for the Unstable Media (Rotterdam, NL) – guided by ideas such as open source technologies, democratization of technological tools and resources, knowledge sharing and mutual learning – are united in their ambition to create an inclusive, open and sustainable XR community.

Camp XR’s hybrid program includes an exhibition, audiovisual and XR performances, numerous workshops, an exciting discursive program and explores topics such as artificial intelligence, the idea of augmented reality as the new default reality, and the use of this technology. in education and the arts, reinventing public space, expanding the field of performing arts, getting to know established and emerging XR artists, and much more. The artistic projects presented in the exhibition approach these technologies in a variety of ways, from 3D printing of sculptures based on our biometric data to immersion in the world of video games or the sale of fragments of our own bodies in the form of NFT. But what they all have in common is a progressive vision of creating new worlds and, essentially, the idea that expanding horizons doesn’t always require VR goggles; sometimes you just need to look at things from a different angle.
