Presentation
Created in 2018 and organized by CHRONIQUES – a project of the associations Seconde Nature in Aix-en-Provence and ZINC in Marseille – the Biennial of Digital Imaginaries is the highlight of digital arts and cultures in the South region.
Exploring visual arts, sound arts and live performance, the Biennial is interested in the presence and use of new technologies in art, invests the public space and gives voice to national and international artists from different backgrounds.
In preparation for each edition of the Biennale, CHRONIQUES renews its support for the production and dissemination of original artworks through the CHRONIQUES CRÉATIONS production platform, supported by the Région Sud, the city of Marseille, the DRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and the Direction Générale de la Création Artistique of the Ministry of Culture as part of the Resource Hub.
CHRONIQUES Resources Hub
CHRONIQUES was designated in 2024 by the Ministry of Culture as a resource hub for artistic creation in the digital environment for the PACA region.
In response to changes in digital technology and its uses, and to better support hybrid and transdisciplinary forms of artistic creation in the digital environment, the Ministry of Culture is setting up regional resource hubs with a view to better structuring the ecosystem.
The aim is to support artists and professionals and to structure ecosystems and cooperation at the regional level, particularly in terms of production and distribution.
The CHRONIQUES CRÉATIONS platform
These new calls for projects are fully aligned with this dynamic, offering artists a structured framework to experiment, produce, and present their works. They aim to support artistic creation by strengthening synergies between artists, production venues, and distribution networks.
Within the CHRONIQUES CREATIONS platform, production is envisioned as a comprehensive and collaborative journey, providing financial support, residency phases, and public presentation stages.
The CHRONIQUES CREATIONS platform brings together operators from various fields (visual arts, live performance, music, audiovisual, virtual reality, etc.) who are committed to supporting artists exploring and questioning new digital technologies.
This commitment and collective work allows us to be agile in our support of works for which we think about the ecosystem of projects with a distribution plan that can be sustained by partner venues.
From two categories in 2018, the CHRONIQUES CREATIONS platform expanded its selection to three categories in 2024: all disciplines creation, emerging creation, and creation in public spaces. As a result, about fifteen works from various disciplines are supported in production and showcased during each Biennale.

The Biennale of Digital Imaginaries
The Biennale of Digital Imaginaries takes place every even-numbered year.
It opens with a launch period that includes special events in public spaces, as well as dedicated spaces for professionals: themed forums (XR, artistic video games, etc.) and the Marché des Imaginaires Numériques (Digital Imaginaries Market).
During three months, a curated journey of around fifteen exhibitions draws more than 100,000 visitors in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, and Istres.
In the closing program, we spotlight new performative narratives—emerging forms of theatrical, choreographic, and musical creation.
Guests of honor :
Each edition of the Biennale highlights the artistic and professional scenes of a specific region alongside an international program.
The 2026 Biennale will feature Morocco, Egypt, and Tunisia as part of the Mediterranean Season 2026, organized by the Institut Français.
