When the sky becomes ground
To inversion of values
With Ief Spincemaille – Jean-Benoît Lallemand x Richard Louvet – Émilie Brout x Maxime Marion – Florian Schönerstedt – Hugo Deverchère
What becomes of the landscape when we turn upside down? When we defy the laws of gravity, when the sky becomes ground. When we replace our sky-holding Atlas by machines. Walking upside down also allows us to invert values and, like a king’s fool, to open a critical space, a door towards revolution.
Sky-walkers, let’s visit these inverted landscapes.
FOCUS ON ARTISTS
Émilie Brout & Maxime Marion
Finalists of the international call for proposals of the Chroniques production platform, they were born in France in the 80s, and they live and work in Vincennes. Holding degrees from Nancy’s ENSA and Aix-en-Provence’s ESA, Émilie Brout and Maxime Marion spend two years at the ENSAD’s Lab in Paris, where they start to collaborate. In their artistic research, they strive to deal with the themes of the abundance of images (either by amateurs or algorithmically generated), or of the transition of the artist from production to post-production. Since 2009, the French pair has been focusing on projects which, by reinventing the movie’s modern language, reuse and widely appropriate contents from the Web. Releasing them of their status of seemingly insignificant and worthless data, they rearrange them in complex narrative setups, sometimes algorithmically generated, or in powerful iconic images.
